All sad but true, Fred. We never seem to learn that when the least of us are harmed, the wound belongs to all of us. History will keep repeating itself because we refuse to listen. Humans???
A well written summation of facts, Frederick. Will we ever fully stop the spin cycle of repeating the horrific of history? I always hope. Yet, now, I'm much closer to the fear of losing it.
Was it Albert Einstein who said that the definition of madness was to repeat the same disastrous mistake as before, and then expect a totally different outcome? If anything, Trump and his goon squad are a lot more dangerous this time.
I'm so glad you revised this, Fred. You said you would, and its time is now.
Thank you Martin for your comment and restack. My initial response seems to have disappeared in cyberspace. RE: The Einstein quote: It’s never been verified. Perhaps he said something like it to someone in German, but it was never written down.
“Lamentable Repetition” is a different poem, which I wrote in 2022. “Lament for a Divided Land” dates further back and has undergone numerous revisions. I wrote the original draft around 2017. It’s currently 9 double-spaced pages long. Even after editing and posting single-spaced, it’ll run several pages long. I’m working on it and will post the latest revised version soon.
Hi Martin, unfortunately, there’s no definitive source for the quote, i.e., Einstein likely didn’t say it—at least not in those words.
“Lamentable Repetition” is a different but similar poem for “Lament for a Divided Land,” which I’m revising as I write this, and which runs 9 double-spaced pages. Even single-spaced, the poem will run several pages after editing. Stay tuned.
Good post, hitting all the aspects of this topic. If anyone thinks education is too expensive, then they will find out the price of ignorance
Thank you, Manuel, for the restack.
Very appropriate for our times, Frederick. Kudos!
Thank you, Manuel.

Ah, yes, willful amnesia.

I will stay tuned, and I look forward to reading that revised poem in due course.
