The poem below is one I wrote in 2021 and posted on my blog with a fall-themed photo. With the omnipresent reality of climate and political change since 2021, I felt the poem and the original photo needed an update and a revision.
When the sun loses
its comforting warm embrace
and an extra layer of clothing
replaces shorts and sandals
When the first time since spring
the furnace fires to ward off
the morning chill before rising
the sun appears ever later
When it’s too early for winter gear
yet lingering thick morning fog
foreshadows frost and worse and it’s
time to replace cotton with wool
When a change in the air usurps weather
and we’re challenged by storms far more dire.
Fred, I can see how the seasons and political climate seems to be mirroring themselves now leaving the warmth and stability of summer wondering are we really ready and prepared for the uncertainty of the rest of the seasons. I pray that we are.
Love the imagery.
